BHS vs Pierce County Baseball 2019
It was senior night and the timing seemed right for a good game at "The Doc." Coach Nix called together the five seniors and expressed his thanks for their hard work and talked of how he'd watched them grow from boys to young men.
The Rebels five seniors were recognized prior to the game: Tanner Adams, Jacob Bennett, Hunter McKinnon, Daniel Griffin, and Hunter White. White got his first varsity start, playing right field and leading off in the bottom of the first.
The game didn't start well for the hoa me team. Starter, Jacob Bennett, had being doing well over his last several outings, but, Pierce got some hits and help from Rebel miscues, and took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th.
Down 6-0 going into the bottom of the 6th, Daniel Griffin, bunted his way onto first, and, when Clay Griffin, 3rd baseman, doubled, Berrien got its first run of the game. Tanner Adams reached on a hit, and Beau Nix was hit by pitch. Clay Griffin scored from 3rd on a wild pitch, making the score 6-3. The rallied continued. Catcher, Connor Sinclair, hit a double, and driving in another run. Hugh Barker worked a walk, and Hunter McKinnon laid down a perfect bunt down the 1st base line, and the tying run crossed the plate.
Berrien had tied the game in the bottom of the 6th, with still no outs made. Griffin Rowe came to bat next, and, put the Rebels ahead on a double to left center, scoring Barker. Daniel Griffin was up next and bunted safely, followed by an RBI from Tanner Adams on a sacrifice.
The Rebels had batted around, scored 9 runs, and, now led 9-6, entering the top of the 7th.
Relief pitcher, Daniel Griffin, along with good defense, held the Bears scoreless in the top of the 7th, and Berrien got a dramatic, come from behind victory, in its final regular season game.
Berrien finished 3rd in Region 1-AA, and will travel to Augusta next Wednesday to face West Augusta High in a best of three series.
